An exhibition dedicated to Pope John Paul II opens in Lviv

Today at 18.00 the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Assumption will host the opening of the exhibition featuring “The Holy Pope John Paul II. The life of prayer”.

The event was organized by Lviv Museum of the History of Religion, together with the Roman Catholic Church Archdiocese of Lviv, reports the press service of Lviv Regional State Administration.

The exhibition is created based on personal materials of Archbishop Mieczyslaw Mokrzycki, Metropolitan of Lviv of the Roman Catholic Church, who was a personal secretary to Pope John Paul II for many years.

The visitors can see the Pope’s cassock, his shirt monogrammed ‘J. P. II’, the tableware with his emblem. The exhibition will present personal belongings of John Paul II: a case for glasses, a belt, a casula, a pileolus, a cingulum, cufflinks, a Stole, rings, Pontifical crosses. Also a variety of gifts for the Pope, collection sets of Vatican Liras and Euros, Vatican envelopes will be featured.

The visitor’s attention will be attracted by an original Swiss Guardsman Costume, a classic uniform, designed specifically by Michelangelo for the pontifical safeguards that have not changed for 400 years.

The photographs by Pope's personal photographer Arturo Mari, as well as the photographs by photographer Vasyl Pylypyuk will be an addition to the personal belongings of Pope John Paul II.

Lviv Museum of the History of Religion will present its collection of items. This is a selection of newspapers and magazines issued during the visit of the Holy Father in Ukraine on June 23-27, 2011, various souvenirs, postcards, badges, flags, postcards, guidebooks, handbooks.

The exhibition is dedicated to the canonization of Pope John Paul II and the 13th anniversary of the Apostolic visit to Ukraine.
