For the first time in five years Holodomor anniversary tobe marked atstate level, the program of events
During four years after Viktor Yanukovych came to power virtually all events commemorating the victims of Holodomor were organized by community without any participation of public authorities.
For the first time in five years, the government and community are jointly preparingcommemorative events honoring the millions of victims of Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine, as reported bythe Cabinet of Minsters’ press-service.
National memorable events of November 22, 2014 will be held under the slogan "They were killing our freedom with hunger. Undefeated in 1933 - invincible today!”
Over the past four years after Yanukovych’s coming to power actually there had been no joint commemoration of Holodomor victims at the national level, stated head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory Volodymyr Viatrovych within the briefing for preparation and planning of the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Holodomor.
The expert stressed that all the activities were organized by community without any participation of public authorities, including the Public Committee for the Commemoration of the victims of the Ukrainian Famine-Genocide of 1932-1933 in Ukraine formed in 2010.
“But despite the willingness of the previous government to silence the subject, we managed to keep the tradition of public commemoration”, said Volodymyr Vyatrovych.
Commemorative activities planned for November, 18-22:
November 18, 12:00 –A memorial lecture at the Memorial of Holodomor Victims “Resistance of Ukrainians to killing through famine in 1932 -1933” will be given byresearch associate of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory Olexandr Shtokvysh (Venue: National Museum “Memorial to the Victims of Holodomor in Ukraine”,Lavrska street 3);
November 19, 13:00 –The action titled “Undefeated by hunger: the forgotten struggle” (Venue: National Museum “Memorial to the Victims of Holodomor in Ukraine” Lavrska street 3);
November 19, 18:30 – First night of the French movie “Famine. The Forgotten Genocide” (Venue: Ukrainian House, Khreschatyk Street 2).
November 20, 11:00 – Presentation of the book “The Famine of 1932-1933 in Ukraine according criminal case files 475” (Venue: Art and Culture Center of the Security Service of Ukraine,.Irynynska street, 6);
November 20, 14:00 - Opening of documentary photo exhibition “Resistance to genocide” about the history of Ukrainian revolts against Stalin's policy of collectivization (Venue: Ukrainian House, Khreschatyk Street 2).
The main events will take place exactly on November 22 with the participation of the state.
So, on November 22 at 15:00 the mourning events dedicated to 81stanniversary of the Ukrainian Famine of 1932-33 will take place at the National Museum “Memorial to the Victims of Holodomor in Ukraine”. At 16:00 the nationwide moment of silence and all-Ukrainian action “Light a Candle of Memory” will be held.
The Organizing Committee urged broadcasters to give up entertainment content on TV and radio on the Day of Remembrance of HolodomorVictims on November 22,as reported by Tyzhden.ua.
