GOVERNMENT APPROVES PLAN FOR METROPOLITAN SHEPTYTSKYY’S ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

Government has set up the Organizing Committee for preparation and celebration of the 150th anniversary of Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Andrey Sheptytskyy and approved the Action Plan

Government has set up the Organizing Committee for preparation and celebration of the 150th  anniversary of Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Andrey Sheptytskyy and approved the Action Plan for the anniversary celebration in 2015.

 

The order drawn up by the Ministry of Culture was adopted at the Cabinet meeting on 29 April. The organizing committee is led by Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Culture Vyacheslav Kyrylenko. The Committee includes: Deputy Minister of Culture of Ukraine for European Integration Andriy Vitrenko, director of the Department for Religions and Nationalities to the Ministry of Culture Andriy Yurash, the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting; Chairman of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, Volodymyr Viatrovych, representatives of regional administrations, MPs, historians, religious scholars, public and cultural figures.


According to the Action Plan, in November 2015, the National Opera held a solemn academy dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Metropolitan Andriy Sheptytskyy. In May, Lviv Museum of the History of Religion will host an international scientific conference “History of Religions in Ukraine”, dedicated to remembrance of Andriy and Klyment Sheptytskyy. At the end of the year, the conferences on various aspects of Metropolitan’s activities and competitions of student works, book exhibitions, round tables and scientific readings in schools will be conducted. The National Museum of Andriy Sheptytskyy will host an exhibition “Metropolitan Andriy as the founder of the National Museum in Lviv and philanthropist of Ukrainian community”, an exhibition dedicated to the anniversary will be also held at the Museum of the History of Kyiv. The Action Plan envisages youth camps in Metropolitan Sheptytskyy’s house in Prylbychi  village of Yavoriv duistrict, Lviv region; introduction of tourist excursions to places associated with the life and activity of Metropolitan Andriy Sheptytskyy. In addition, it is planned to mount the memorial plaque of Andrey Sheptytskyy on Kyiv House of Teacher. In July, the National Bank will issue a commemorative coin "Andriy Sheptytskyy" and Ukrpochta will release a stamp and an envelope featuring “First day”, according to Meta media outlet.
