The head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Sviatoslav, personally and on behalf of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC, congratulated Bishop Borys Gudziak, Archbishop and Metropolitan of Philadelphia on the occasion of his 60th birthday.

This was reported by the Information Department of the UGCC.

"We pray to Almighty God, expressing our gratitude for calling you to the path of sacrificial consecration to the Church and the people, for endowing you with His gifts, which you have amply multiplied during your life," the congratulatory letter reads.

The head of the UGCC noted the fruits of the bishop's spiritual and patriotic upbringing given to him by his parents and strengthened by his membership in nationally oriented organizations, including Plast, and the excellent education he received in the best educational institutions of the world. And through his service, the bishop brought these gifts into our Church that emerged from the underground triumphant and spread its wings.

The Patriarch of the UGCC emphasized the role of the man of the hour in the development of theological science.

"As a worthy follower of our glorious Metropolitan Andrey and a great admirer of Patriarch Josyf, you have made incredible efforts to fulfill their dream - to revive the Lviv Theological Academy and build a Ukrainian Catholic University on its foundations. By giving all your knowledge, gifts and talents to the development of this educational institution," His Beatitude Sviatoslav wrote.

It is also noted that Bishop Borys' openness towards God's will helped him to revive the exarchate of our Church in France, the one he once led.

"Today, serving as a bishop in the Metropolitanate of Philadelphia, separated by the ocean from your mother Church, you have become a caring spiritual father, a devoted preacher of God's Word, and an example of the 'heart-to-heart' sacrificial service."

"We must mention your active participation in the activities of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC and absolute authority among the bishops, which contributed to many important decisions for the good of our Church… All this testifies to you as a man of great faith and deep wisdom," the head of the UGCC emphasized.
