On International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska has shared information about the Closed Eyes project, which aims to create a complete martyrology of the Ukrainian civilians killed in the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2014-2022.
The relevant statement was made by First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“Today, at the initiative of the United Nations, the world is honoring the victims of terrorism. Ukraine is doing so too, as Russia’s continuous bombardments of our peaceful cities and villages, targeted fire on shopping malls, hospitals and schools, tortures and killings in the occupied areas are nothing but terrorism,” Zelenska wrote.
According to the First Lady of Ukraine, there are many definitions of terrorism. But, first of all, it is the killing of innocent people in order to intimidate the rest of society or community, and this is exactly what Russia is continuously doing.
“On this day, I want to share the Closed Eyes project. Its authors are planning to create a complete martyrology of the Russian-Ukrainian war victims among civilians to keep the memory of the fallen Ukrainians,” Zelenska noted.
In her words, now this project includes over 2,000 names, and each of these names causes a terrible pain.
“‘Killed together with her son Vladyk in shelling’, ‘killed in mortar fire in his own yard’, ‘abducted from his home and shot’. It is horrible to see three identical surnames in a row and realize that the whole family died,” Zelenska added.
One can add information about the deceased person in the martyrology.
“It is important not only to keep the memory. The testimony of so many victims will help us to achieve justice: to ensure that the international community recognizes Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism,” the First Lady of Ukraine stressed.
A reminder that, on August 16, 2022, the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center launched the Closed Eyes project, aiming to create a complete martyrology of the Russian-Ukrainian war victims among civilians to keep the memory of murdered people and tell the world about the unthinkable genocide of Ukrainians in the 21st century.
