Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine (Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate) on 12 September 2001 sent his condolences regarding the terrorist attacks which occurred in New York and Washington on 11 September 2001. To Mr. George Bush, President of the United States of America, the government and people of the USA Dear Mr. President: In the name of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church I wish to express my deepest sympathies for the tragic events which occurred in your country. May the merciful Lord give rest to the souls of those who perished and give strength and courage to the living who bear the difficult trial which has fallen on the American people.
