95th Anniversary of Heroic Battle of Kruty Celebrated in Lviv and Kyiv

On January 29, flowers will be laid at the grave of a participant of the Battle of Kruty, I. Loskyi, in the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv.

Today the 95th anniversary of the heroic Battle of Kruty is celebrated in Lviv. According to the press service of the Lviv Regional State Administration, on January 28, an official delegation from Lviv left for the village of Pamiatne in the Chernihiv Region to participate in the remembrance events.

On January 29, flowers will be laid at the grave of a participant of the Battle of Kruty, I. Loskyi, in the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv.

A memorial service and a procession of the cadets of the Lviv Kruty Heroes State Military Lyceum are also to be conducted.

The candle procession of the cadets of the Lviv Kruty Heroes State Military Lyceum, youth organizations and representatives of the public will to be conducted on Svoboda Avenue in the center.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov will participate in the remembrance ceremony and the laying of flowers at Askold’s Grave in Kyiv to mark the Day of Remembrance of the Heroes of Kruty.

The heroic deaths of the student fighters at Kruty became a symbol of patriotism and sacrifice in the struggle for independent Ukraine. In March 1918, after the signing by the Bolsheviks of the Brest Peace Treaty and return of the Government of the Ukrainian People’s Republic to Kyiv by a decision of the Central Council, the bodies of 28 of the perished students were re-buried in Kyiv where a memorial events were held.
