The Vatican reported that all 133 cardinals who will take part in the secret conclave to elect a new pope arrived in Rome on Monday.

The Vatican announced that 180 cardinals attended the synodal meeting on Monday morning. Among them, 132 cardinals are set to participate in the upcoming conclave. A 133rd cardinal is also present in Rome but did not take part in the discussions.
Two cardinals, one from Spain and one from Kenya, will not be attending the conclave for health reasons. The Vatican noted that conclaves can last several days and require multiple votes until a candidate secures the necessary three-quarters majority to be elected pope.
There are several cardinals considered potential candidates for the position, including Italian Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Philippine Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle. However, many of the voting cardinals have not yet made their decisions.
The conclave is scheduled to begin behind the closed doors of the Sistine Chapel on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 7. All cardinals under the age of 80 are eligible to participate in the election of Pope Francis's successor, who passed away on April 21.
During the conclave, the cardinals will reside in two Vatican guest houses and will be prohibited from contacting the outside world.
Additionally, a chimney has recently been installed above the Sistine Chapel to signal the outcome of the conclave.
