Ambassador Says Serbian Patriarch Pavle May Visit Ukraine

26.11.2002, 16:30
Rade Filipovic, ambassador of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to Ukraine, said that Patriarch Pavle of the Serbian Orthodox Church may soon visit Ukraine. The ambassador made this announcement during a meeting with Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan), head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate, on 25 November 2002.

“I hope that very soon Serbian Patriarch Pavle will visit Ukraine,” said the ambassador, adding that patriarchs Pavle and Volodymyr will be able to discuss the problems of church division in Ukraine and Yugoslavia. Filipovic also expressed his gratitude to Metropolitan Volodymyr for his permission to erect a chapel in memory of the Serbian martyrs, calling it “a monument to the victims of NATO’s bombing of Serbia.” On the same day, Metropolitan Volodymyr also met with Prof. Vojislav Milovanovic, minister of religion of the Republic of Serbia. The minister informed him about the current state of the Serbian Orthodox Church and church-state relations in the republics that belong to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
