Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine, Archbishop Thomas Gullickson said in the interview to Vatican Insider that the annexation of the Crimea was a clear violation of international law and the Russian Federation should stop the transportation of militants and weapons in the Donbas.
The Archbishop said that the position of the Holy See on the conflict in eastern Ukraine corresponds with the position of the international community in particular concerning the territorial integrity of the state and non-interference in its internal affairs, said the Vatican diplomat. Annexation of the Crimea is unquestionable violation of international law, he said.
"If the Russian Federation can not immediately give back to Ukraine the full control of their borders in the Donbas region, it has to close the border on the other side and block the movement of militants and weapons at least. Humanitarian assistance must be coordinated with Kyiv, under the supervision of the Red Cross, the OSCE and other organizations ", - stated Archbishop Gullickson.
When asked about the state of minds Ukrainian Nuncio said: They feel as the rest of the world does not understand them and abandoned them. Instead, when it comes to relations between the Churches and members of different religions, he stressed the role of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, which seeks to strengthen national unity in the face of aggression and internal divisions.
