Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli Visits Ukrainian Catholic University

On 22 May, President of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli visited Lviv.

On 22 May, President of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli  visited Lviv. The archbishop consecrated the new building of the media-center of the Lviv Spiritual Seminary of the Holy Spirit and conducted a lecture “New media and Christian identity.”

In his address to the participants of the event,  the archbishop mentioned the words of John Paul II about the importance of use of mass media for the spread of the Word of God and making public the position of the Church on certain issues.

“The Church is called to use media in order to protect the Gospel, however, to be able to spread this message of the Word of God we must integrate the message in the new social culture… We must preach Jesus Christ and help people dream and hope,” the Information Department of UGCC quotes the hierarch as saying.

During a meeting with representatives of the Catholic mass media in the building of the Philosophic-Theological Department of the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli got acquainted with the status of the Catholic mass media in Ukraine. He called everyone to think about “the world of young people” many of whom use the internet and the necessity to define the communication strategy.

In the end of the day, the archbishop visited the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Yur where he participated in the Vespers on occasion of the Ascension Day together with Bishop Benedykt (Aleksiichuk) and the crypt where the heads of UGCC of the last century were buried.

President of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli  visited Ukraine upon the invitation of Patriarch Sviatoslav of UGCC.
