Scientists ask the authorities to take urgent steps to preserve the remains of the foundation of the Tithe Church in Kyiv. So said at a press-conference at UNIAN today an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Director of the Institute of Archeology of the academy Petro Tolochko, the head of the Architectural-Archeological Expedition Hlib Ivakin, and the Deputy Director of the Institute of Monuments Protection Studies of Ukraine Tymur Bobrovskyi.

The archeologists are convinced that in view of the beginning of the winter, the quickest method will be to cover the authentic remains with a special soil for the time being and install a drainage system to conserve the remains.

“We are in danger of losing these remains of the foundation of the Tithe Church. I must say that we lost something each year as we had no possibility to protect the foundation properly,” commented Petro Tolochko.

According to him, last winter, the archeologists on their own conserved the remains by covering it in parts. “But this does not guarantee the preservation, for the trench will get filled with melted water and this will cause corruption. Therefore, we, the archeologists have raised the alarm,” said Tolochko and added that the authentic remains will not survive another winter uncovered.
