The Pope's words for Ukraine are his Initiative “Pope for Ukraine” - this said Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti on April 8 during a press conference in Vinnytsia. According to the diplomat, now it is time not for just words, but for action.

“I assure you that in international government agencies, the Pope's voice on Ukraine sounds very loud and is based on principles known to you: respect for the territorial integrity and inviolability of borders. Nothing can be more clear and understandable than that. And these talking points are regularly voiced.

But the Vatican’s diplomacy has a special character. No need to constantly repeat the same thing, instead one should support small gestures of reconciliation, small humanitarian initiatives, small contacts – it ultimately creates the bigger world.”

"The Pope says he stands for Ukraine. The words of the Pope are a campaign for Ukraine. It is also a fact that he sent me to Avdiyivka when there was shelling and conveyed through me 200,000 euros for the children of Avdiyivka,” the Ambassador to the Holy See emphasized.

Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti has also noted how important it is not to cultivate an artificial sense of separation inside Ukraine and not to turn it into an obsession - both on one and the other side of the boundary line. “It would be the biggest victory for the enemies of Ukraine.”

“The victory of those who do not love Ukraine is its separation, and they have greatest tools ever to do so. And the most important tool is not the weapon but the propaganda,” the diplomat believes.

“You mentioned my numerous visits to the east of Ukraine to the territories that are controlled and not controlled by Ukrainian authorities. But it always remains Ukraine, and we have no right to forget about it.”

“The Initiative “Pope for Ukraine” aims to emphasize that the human person remains the same regardless of the line that can separate us.

This does not mean that there are no perpetrators and those affected. But not every person can be blamed for everything. People are not to blame that they were born in one area instead of being born in another country. Birth never can be a blame, as the fault implies choice, and the birth of is never such a choice,” said the Nuncio. It was reported by “Pope for Ukraine” website.
