"In April, the total number of people deprived of liberty in the case of Crimean Muslims amounted to 57 people. Of these, 55 people have been presented with charges under Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code (organization of the activities of a terrorist organization or participation in a terrorist organization), 2 persons – under Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code (organization of the activities of an extremist organization or participation in an extremist organization) and 1 person – under Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code (public appeals to terrorist attacks),” the report says.
According to human rights activists, Hizb ut-Tahrir and Tablihi Jamaat are not forbidden in Ukraine, and the persecution of Ukrainian citizens in the occupied territory of Ukraine for participation in these organizations constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law.
All those involved in this case are accused of affiliation with the Islamic organizations or promoting organizations that are considered terrorist or extremist organizations in the Russian Federation but are not considered as such under the law of Ukraine, the group claims.
Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Human Rights Lyudmyla Denysova appealed to her Russian colleague Tatyana Moskalkova to ensure proper conditions of detention in the pretrial detention facilities for Crimean Tatars detained after massive searches.
