A Ukrainian deputy, Oleksandr Feldman, registered a bill “On Restitution of Religious Property to Religious Organizations,” reported the press service of the deputy to UNIAN.
According to the deputy, religious organizations in Ukraine were for many years depraved of the possibility to use religious property which they are rightfully entitled to. This applies to all religious communities without exception: Christian, Muslim, Jewish, located in both large cities and villages.
“We examined the situation in detail and came to the conclusion that the present status of affairs is not only absurd from the moral viewpoint, as the right place of religious objects is in churches and not in the basements of the archives, but also saw the legal groundlessness of this state of affairs. In reality, the Law 'On National Archive Stocks' does not deal with religious property at all. The law came into effect according to a resolution of the parliament that stipulated the inclusion in the National Archive Stocks of archival documents which were registered by the state at the moment of validation of the draft law,” stated Feldman.
