“The current situation in the south of Ukraine seems stable, but occasionally protesters riot. It's a shame to watch that the people who live here, who were born here and who were brought up in Ukraine can so quickly be bought by another state, can become traitors to their country, Ukraine."

Bishop Bronislaw Bernacki of the Odesa-Simferopol Diocese spoke about the situation of the Roman Catholics in the south of Ukraine and Crimea in an interview with Vatican Radio.

“The current situation in the south of Ukraine seems stable, but occasionally protesters riot. It's a shame to watch that the people who live here, who were born here and who were brought up in Ukraine can so quickly be bought by another state, can become traitors to their country, Ukraine.

“The situation of the clergy and faithful of the Roman Catholic Church has not changed, even the priests and the bishops remain the same. The churches and chapels that were open remain open, no one has stopped them from being used, I have asked the priests to not travel outside the region just yet, even for some personal errands, so that they can be with people. When the situation stabilizes, then they can leave.”
