May 17, in the representative office of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) Chairman of the supervisory board of the construction division at the Patriarchal Cathedral Church Bishop Iosyp (Milian) met with the head of the Canadian-Ukrainian foundation Victor Getmanchuk.

The meeting was also attended by Vice President of the Canadian-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce Roman Savytski, director of the UWC Sergey Kasyanchuk and authorized UGCC representative Vasily Bukatyuk.

UGCC priests reported to the representatives of Canadian sponsors about the current state of construction of the cathedral and plans for the future. In particular, they referred to the scandalous construction near the Patriarchal Cathedral, which constitutes a serious threat of destruction.

The planned construction of multi-storey building directly around the cathedral ruins the entire architectural ensemble of the sanctuary.

Representatives from Canada expressed concern about rapid negative developments and indicted the need for an independent international legal and technical expertise.

Participants are appealing to the relevant authorities of Ukraine and the international community to protect the main sanctuary of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, which is the largest in the Eastern Catholic Church (of this rite) and has about eight million faithful worldwide, according to the Information Department of the UGCC.
