Former head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Cardinal Lubomyr (Husar), believes that Ukrainians lost their sense of responsibility, because for three hundred years they were governed by other nations.

According Cardinal Lubomyr, Ukrainians inherited a tendency to be terrible individualists. “We do not have a deep tradition of democracy. And it is inappropriate to blindly imitate the forms that other states have chosen.  Each country should work according to its own national character," he said.

"We must learn to be democrats. We have to try - to make their mistakes, but seek to go toward democracy. There is no better form of government than democracy, but it is also the most difficult," said the cardinal.
