KYIV — The international charity fund Caritas of Ukraine for the second year in a row became the winner of the competition Philanthropist of the Year 2009 in the charitable organization nomination. This information was revealed during the round table “Ukraine. Charity. 2009,” which took place on 10 December, 2009 in the national preserve Sofia of Kyiv. Let us recall that last year Caritas won in another nomination, “the representative office of an international charity fund or non-governmental organization” of the competition Philanthropist of the Year.

The president of Caritas of Ukraine Andrii Vaskovych expressed in a comment to RISU that the victory confirms the successful approaches of the Ukrainian society in charitable activity, which is based on Christian principles and productive cooperation with the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. “We emphasize social accompaniment and psychological support,” Mr. Vaskovych shared with RISU. “These principles find reflections in such projects as ‘home guardianship.’ In the spotlight of this project are not the individual problems of a person but the whole personality and the environment in which the individual must live.”
