Church in Senlis resumed its service

The church in Senlis near Paris, where Anna of Kyiv had lived, yesterday resumed its service . Today Ukrainians are able to participate in the memorial Pontifical Liturgy in the Cathedral of Notre Dame to pray together for the victims of Holodomor, UNN , with reference to the press service of the Lviv City Council.

It is to be recalled that, 27 September Ukrainian Eparchy of St. Volodymyr in Paris, led by Bishop Borys ( Gudziak ), has acquired the church in Senlis (45 km from Paris ) near the Abbey of St. Vincent , which had been established by the French Queen Anna of Kyiv in 1060.

Yesterday , November 16 , the newly acquired church opened doors to all comers. A solemn Liturgy was celebrated. Many Ukrainians came to the celebration.

" We purchased the church in Senlis , a royal town where Anna Yaroslavna, Queen of France had lived. With this ecclesiastical and legal act we have shown that the sources of the Ukrainian Christian European tradition are alive and viable , "- said Bishop Borys ( Gudziak).

"The Church is made of hewn stone, in structurally very good condition. It also has a large cave, where there are the catacombs of the Roman times. The building will be divided into two parts - the chapel and cultural center, the latter will represent Ukraine in the context of European history and culture. This is symbolic because Anna of Kiev was the first from Ukraine, who was recorded in European history ", noted bishop Borys

Today, 17 November, Ukrainian are able to participate in the memorial Pontifical Liturgy in the Cathedral of Notre Dame to pray together for the victims of the Holodomor.

"We both remember the martyrs and victims of the Holodomor. We are called to nurture confidence about their future, a viable claim their dignity - not at the expense of others, not in spite of anyone , but simply because it is true . And this truth is given to us today to survive , "- said Bishop Boris ( Gudziak ).

Note: in Senlis in the XI century daughter of Yaroslav the Wise lived. Since November, the church has functioned as a temple of the UGCC, which will operate at Cultural Center of Anna of Kiev whose purpose is to represent and promote Ukrainian culture Ukrainian -European cooperation.

The church was bought for 203,000 euros donation Ukrainian from Ukraine, France, Britain , the United States and Canada. According to preliminary estimates for repairs and improvement to 1.5 million U.S. dollars , because the church has not acted nearly a century as a temple , and was in private ownership.
