Conference of European Churches sent a letter to members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (AUCCRO), which expressed solidarity Ukrainian people.

It is with profound concern for the well-being of your churches and people that we are following the worrying developments in Ukraine. Through this letter we wish to reiterate our
solidarity with you and support your call for peace and an immediate stop to any interference that would polarise and cause further division of Ukrainian society. After the violent confrontations of the past weeks – confrontations in which so many lives were sacrificed – your people deserve a respite from violence and bloodshed and a right to live in peace and harmony within a diverse and pluralistic society.

The Conference of European Churches wants to ensure that all diplomatic and peaceful means are employed by those in power so that Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are preserved. Some of our leaders in our member churches are doing their utmost to urge their respective governments, the European Union and other multilateral institutions to intensify diplomatic efforts in this regard and ensure a sound democratic process in this time of transition. It is our ardent hope that their work will bear fruit for the good of the whole of Ukraine.

We offer you our fervent prayers for peace and the non-violent resolution of all problems confronting Ukrainian society. We pray for strength and wisdom for all political leaders that they may truly represent the legitimate desires of the people of Ukraine and be persuaded to choose diplomacy and dialogue over military intervention, democracy and human rights over authoritarian rule. Our prayers and solidarity are with you and trust that we are with you in spirit in these difficult times.
