On May 24, 2022, the Council of Bishops of the local Orthodox Church of Ukraine was held in the Metropolitan house at St Sophia in Kyiv under the chairmanship of Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and all Ukraine.
According to the OCU official website, the Council was attended by the fullness of bishops of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, except for those who were absent for objective reasons. At the beginning of the meeting, the Primate delivered a report on activities since the previous council (December 15, 2020) and assessments and proposals for further work on the development of the local church, after which a conciliar discussion of topical issues on the agenda was held.
The Council of Bishops also approved the resolutions. In particular, the Council invoked God's blessing on the Armed Forces of Ukraine and all its defenders, on the President, state and local authorities and on the entire Ukrainian people, and asks the Almighty to bring victory over the Russian aggressor closer and achieve a just peace.
The Council approved the Appeal to the hierarchs, clergy and faithful in the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine.
In addition, the Council of Bishops asked the Primate to reach out to the Ecumenical Patriarch and the Primates of local Churches regarding bringing Russia's Patriarch Kirill to canonical responsibility and depriving him of the patriarchal throne for spreading heretical ethnophyletic teaching based on the Russian World ideology, giving a "blessing" to the Russian troops for the war in Ukraine, which continues to cause destruction and numerous victims, as well as for provoking schism in the Church, in particular through the creation of "dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church" on the canonical territory of the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
