The Kyiv Circuit Administrative Court cancelled the order of the Minister of Culture Mykhailo Kulyniak to dismiss Nelia Kukovalska from the position of the General Director of the National Reserve Sophia of Kyiv and reinstated her.
"The court considered all the accusations of the Ministry of Culture against me and found them groundless," said Mrs. Kukovalska.
Nelia Kukovalska was dismissed from her position on 24 January. On 1 March, the Supervisory Committee of the reserve explained that the decision was made because of the use of 1.6 million UAH, which were allocated for archeological excavations in the reserve, for non-intended purposes and for opening the sarcophagus of Yaroslav the Wise and restoration of the mosaic of St. Michael’s Monastery without the consent of the Ministry of Culture.
According to Nelia Kukovalska, she intends to get back to work upon completion of a course of treatment.
Yesterday, the Minister of Culture Mykhailo Kulyniak stated that he knows nothing about the decision of the Kyiv Circuit Administrative Court: “The ministry has received no documents regarding a reinstatement of Mrs. Kukovalska as the general director.”
