Ecumenical Conference under Umbrella of World Council of Churches to Discuss Subject of Chornobyl-Fukushima

On May 17-25, in Kingston, Jamaica, an ecumenical conference under the umbrella of the World Council of Churches will be held to deal mostly with the issue of the preserving the environment and its connection with peace-keeping issues.

The Ukrainian Chornobyl and Japanese Fukushima, the human and environmental tragedy, have become the subject for reflection for various religious communities who consider their calling to be the promotion of ethical responsibility in managing natural resources.

On May 17-25, in Kingston, Jamaica, an ecumenical conference under the umbrella of the World Council of Churches will be held to deal mostly with the issue of the preserving the environment and its connection with peace-keeping issues. Members of communities that are part of the council, who come from more than 100 countries, united for prayer on May 25 on the occasion of the anniversary of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster.

In connection with the upcoming conference, the leaders of the World Council of Churches said: “The Earth needs Christians who together with other people willl make the world in creation and the world with creation,” reported Radio Vatican.
