The debate and vote will take place in Strasbourg on Thursday, May 12, according to the official website of the European Parliament.
On April 26, the Russian court banned Crimean Tatar Mejlis on the annexed peninsula. It was declared "an extremist organisation".
The European Union slammed the prohibition of the Crimean Tatars Mejlis by the Kremlin. "Today's decision by the so-called Supreme Court of Crimea to prohibit the activities of the Mejlis, a self-governing body of the Crimean Tatars, labelling it "an extremist organisation", represents a grave attack on the rights of the Crimean Tatars as a whole", E.U. officials said.
E.U. added Russia must fully comply with international human rights standards "without delay".
On May 9, Mejlis leaders called on the E.U. to turn off Russia from the SWIFT international banking system, as well as impose a temporary embargo on Russian oil.
"Amid spike in repressions against Crimean Tatars, our task is to make sure the international community tends to toughen sanctions against Russia", said Refat Chubarov, Mejlis chairman.
