There is a powerful movement within the UOC-MP for breaking the ties with Moscow.
This was announced during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine by Fr Heorhiy Kovalenko, a priest of the OCU, rector of the Open Orthodox University of St. Sophia the Wise, Ukrinform reports.
“We see a powerful movement within the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate for eventually breaking the connection with Moscow. The new legislation should aid this movement,” he said.
According to Fr Heorhiy, some clergy and faithful of the Moscow Patriarchate hope that their leadership will eventually listen to the voice of their faithful and take appropriate steps to sever the ties with Moscow.
“Thus, this process continues in several directions. It is ongoing, though sometimes many would prefer for it to be faster. Still, the Church is a rather conservative and 'slow' community, and we must be respectful and patient with these processes,” the priest noted.
