The international tender for the best concept of improvement of places connected with  Jewish history was announced by the Lviv City Council last year. The places in question are the ruins of the Golden Rose Synagogue, former Jewish Cemetery located in Rapoport Street and the former Yaniv Concentration Camp.

According to the results of the tender, the best project of the improvement  of the square of three synagogues was presented by architects from Berlin, Franz Reschke, Paul Reschke and Frederik Schpinger. An architect from Israel, Ronit Lobrozo is the winner in the nomination of improvement of the former Jewish cemetery, and the best version of architectural development of the territory of the former Yaniv concentration camp was offered by a group of architects from USA, reported Komsomolskaia pravda.

Their projects were evaluated by the best experts of the world from USA, Switzerland and Germany and a known Israeli architect, Serhii Kravtsov.  The main condition of the tender was the restoration of the ruins of the Golden Rose Synagogue. In the past, three very important building were located in that place: the Great City Synagogue, House of Study and the Golden Rose.

Despite the fact that the buildings were destroyed during WWII, the neighbourhood has a special atmosphere about it.

The author of the project, Franz Reschke commented on the concept: "On the ruins of the Golden Rose Synagogue we will install a wooden floor on which one can come up to the ruins without trampling on them. We intend to leave empty the place where the Great Synagogue was located, it will be the 'place of commotion.' We plan to arrange the area, where the House of Study was located, as a green area, install benches for people to be able to walk here, meet and rest. We will also install information signs.”
