In each of our eparchies, especially in Western Ukraine, where we are most numerous, there are clergy who have died of the coronavirus. His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, spoke about this in an interview with the Polish KAI.
“In general, the number of priests who died of coronavirus in our Church reaches about two dozen,” the Primate of the UGCC added.
The pandemic showed, His Beatitude Sviatoslav said in the interview, that we are all equal, regardless of who we are, bishops or the homeless, rich or poor, Catholic or Orthodox. Each of us has the same "chance" to get sick and die.
The Head of the UGCC also said that about a dozen priests were ill in each of the eparchies. "It was also a big challenge because they and their families needed help. In my eparchy [Kyiv Archeparchy - Ed.] most priests suffered from the coronavirus, but, thank God, no one died," he said.
His Beatitude Sviatoslav also noted the solidarity within the UGCC, where they try to support each other, and he, as the Head of the Church, tries to keep in touch with the sick and help everyone who needs it.
