Head of UGCC meets with Supreme Mufti of Ukraine

On August 20, Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, visited Sheikh Ahmed Tamim, the Supreme Mufti of Ukraine, Head of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Ukraine, and Head of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations.

This was reported by the UGCC Department for Information.

The meeting took place at the invitation of the Supreme Mufti in the premises of the Islamic complex at the Kyiv Cathedral Mosque “Ar-Rahma.”

During the conversation, the parties discussed joint activities within the framework of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations and shared plans for the future, particularly regarding strengthening support for Ukraine in the international arena.

Considerable attention was devoted to promoting the further development of Ukraine as a society renowned for its religious and cultural diversity. His Beatitude Sviatoslav emphasized that true democracy does not exist where the majority rules, but where the rights of minorities are respected. The meeting was also attended by Fr. Oleksa Petriv, chairman of the Department of External Relations of the UGCC in Ukraine, and Oleksandr Zayets, Institute for Religious Freedom Board Chairman.

At the end of the meeting, the parties exchanged commemorative gifts. The Supreme Mufti of Ukraine, Sheikh Ahmed Tamim, gave the visitors a tour of the Islamic complex and the Ar-Rahma Mosque in Kyiv.
