The head of the UGCC names three historical dimensions of Cardinal Parolin's visit to Ukraine

23 July, 20:30

Cardinal Parolin's visit to Ukraine is important for both Ukraine and the world.

This was stated by Patriarch Sviatoslav of the UGCC, the Information Department of the UGCC reports.

"Today, many people stop talking about the tragedy of the Ukrainian people, and therefore, the visit of His Excellency Pietro Parolin is not only a way for Pope Francis to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people but also a message to the international community. We can see that this visit is being publicized in the international community, with many people following it. The cardinal's words are important for Ukraine and the world."

The head of the UGCC called the visit of the Holy See's envoy historic.

Cardinal Parolin visited the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv, as well as the bomb shelter, which continues to receive people seeking refuge in the church. He expressed words of support and gratitude to the humanitarian mission of the UGCC, noting that he was pleasantly surprised by the development of the Church.

His Excellency also met with the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations.

"After visiting our statesmen, the leaders of the Ukrainian state [on July 22, Cardinal Parolin met with the Prime Minister of Ukraine - Ed.], today, he heard the voice of the people. This was emphasized because the Council of Churches represents 75% of the people of Ukraine," said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

Cardinal Parolin emphasized the triple mission of the Holy See regarding the war in Ukraine. The first mission is to do everything to ensure that the world does not forget about this war.

The second mission is humanitarian. He spoke about various initiatives, humanitarian aid, in particular, to feed and warm those in need and provide them with medicines and other necessities, as well as about the Holy See's assistance in the release of prisoners of war.

The third level of service is diplomacy, as Cardinal Parolin is the head of papal diplomacy. According to the Vatican Secretary of State, this diplomacy has a single goal - to promote a just peace and prevent wars.

"We are grateful for Cardinal Parolin's historic visit to Ukraine. It is interesting that he wished for the next meeting, saying: "I know that you, perhaps, are awaiting the arrival of the Pope. He, however, expressed the intention that the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches should come on the next visit to the Apostolic Capital," said the head of the UGCC.
