Hungary blocks the EU sanctions against Patriarch Kirill again
This was reported by Radio Liberty's editor for Europe, Rikard Jozwiak, according to Ukrinform.
"Some EU member states tried to impose sanctions against Patriarch Kirill, but Hungary blocked them, just like last time," Rikard Jozwiak wrote on Twitter.
According to him, the Hungarian authorities believe that "no religious leader should be included in the sanctions list."
Since the beginning of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the EU and its member states have begun providing meaningful political, economic, financial, humanitarian and military assistance to Ukraine. At the same time, the EU consistently applies economic and individual sanctions against Russia, which are intended to reduce the Kremlin's ability to finance its "war machine" against Ukraine.
