At a meeting with Carpathian journalists on April 15, Metropolitan Volodymyr Viytishyn of the Ivano-Frankivsk UGCC touched upon the aggravation of the situation on the eastern border of our state.
Metropolitan Volodymyr emphasized:
"Our Church has always stood up for the people. The Church supported its people when it was imprisoned and came out of hiding. It will always be with its people, who strive for independence. Most of all, the Church should take care to prevent the greatest disaster that is war. Now is the time when no faiths are banned, churches are open, and we try to live in peace and love together. Ukraine is not one that wants to hurt anyone, but the ideology that we once came out of stands against us in order to prevent us from building Ukraine, the foundations of democracy. We must protect all this, pray to the Lord to prevent trouble. Ukraine has already suffered so much. We are all ready to end the war. But, God forbid, if there is a need to protect our land, I think we are all children of this land and, as the older generation did, we must protect our land and Church."
