In Lviv 17.5 thousand residents said ‘no’ to the propaganda of homosexuality by signing an address in this regard.

LVIV In Lviv 17.5 thousand residents said ‘no’ to the propaganda of homosexuality by signing an address in this regard, reported the coordinator of the action, the head of the public organization Territory of Truth, pastor Oleksandr Savchenko at the press conference on June 25. RISU's Ukrainian-language web page posted this story on June 28, 2010.

According to the initiators of the action, their opponents threatened to break up the press conference on the results of the action.

The residents of Lviv will pass all the signatures gathered to the Kyiv organization Love Against Homosexuality. Copies of forms with signatures will also be passed to the deputies of the Lviv City Council in order for the local deputies to declare at the session their position on homo-dictatorship taking into account the position of the city residents.

According to the organizers of the movement, over 60 thousand signatures of citizens have been gathered in all regions of Ukraine requesting that the Supreme Council pass a law to prohibit any propaganda of same-sex relations. According to them, the reason for such a strong demand is the threat to the national security of the country due to the spread of homosexuality as it is the main cause of the AIDS epidemic, deepens the demographic crises, and destroys the institution of family.

The collecting of signatures in Lviv lasted for a few weeks after a large street action “For a Healthy Ukrainian family and Traditional Values” held on May 16.

The tents, where the volunteers of the movement gathered signatures supporting their initiative, were erected in the center of the city. The participants of the movement also noted that they expect a response of the local authorities as their address was supported by over 2% of the residents.

According to the organizers, the press conference held at the Press Club was under a threat of a disruption from opponents. Oleksandr Savchenko noted that unknown persons threatened not only to disrupt the event but also to “organize a reprisal against its organizers.”
