On the land that is designated for the construction of a Greek Catholic church in Yalta, there was an act of vandalism – unknown persons threw the consecrated cross in the trash, the Information Department of the UGCC reports.

When the local priest came to the site, he saw the lock on the front gate was not in place, and in its place was a new one.

Entering the grounds, the priest saw that the entire site was a mess, trees were cut down, and the cross, erected in 2005 to mark the place of consecration, was torn down and thrown in the trash. The vandalism was then documented. According to witnesses, a few days ago some strangers “ruled” over this area, taking advantage of the absence of the priest. They called themselves the new owners of the plot.

Since 1992 the local community has been trying to obtain land for the construction of a church. After many proposals and rejections, in 2005 the site of the church was finally designated. The community gathered all the necessary documents and in December 2005 submitted the lease to the city council for approval and signing. However, instead of the allocation of land, the religious community received a subpoena. The lawsuit continues to this to this day. The goal is to deny the community the right to build.
