Israeli Ambassador asks Hasidim to refrain from visiting Uman
Hasidim were asked to refrain from going to Uman and stay at home because of the pandemic. The respective appeal was made by the Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Yoel Lyon and the mayor of Uman Alexander Tsebriy on Wednesday, April 8.
According to "Correspondent", the statement was also signed by the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Azman and chief Rabbi Uman Yaakov Janta.
"The Torah orders us to stay out of danger. Through the pandemic, we encourage you to follow the instructions of local government. Stay in quarantine in your homes," the appeal says.
The signatories also called on Hasidim to observe all quarantine measures. The appeal also warned pilgrims about fines for violating the quarantine.
Earlier, a pilgrim from the United States died from COVID-19 in Uman. The man was 47 years old, he came to Ukraine with his wife and six children. He had a serious pathology but did not allow doctors to approach him.
