Kyiv Police institutes criminal proceedings over anti-Semitic inscriptions near the Office of the President of Ukraine

As part of the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement officers are trying to identify the persons involved in the commission of this offense. The penalty is from a fine to up to three years' imprisonment.

The executive director of the United Jewish Community of Ukraine sent an official letter to the Kyiv Police. He said that yesterday, October 14, unknown persons unfurled a banner with anti-Semitic statements near the Office of the President of Ukraine in Kyiv.

This is reported by the press service of the National Police.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated on this ground under Part 1 of Article 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, as it constitutes a violation of equal rights of citizens depending on their race, nationality, religious beliefs, disability and other grounds. The envisaged penalty is up to three years, with or without deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the police are establishing all the circumstances of the incident and the persons involved in the specified offense.
