Kyivan Patriarchate’s Head Sends Greeting Address to Viktor Yanukovych for Inauguration

The patriarch expressed hope that the new president will be the guarantor of the observance of civil rights and freedoms, including the freedom of conscience and confession.

KYIVThe head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP, Patriarch Filaret, sent the newly elected President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych a greeting address for the occasion of his inauguration.  The patriarch expressed hope that the new president will be the guarantor of the observance of civil rights and freedoms, including the freedom of conscience and confession, reports the press service of UOC-KP.

“Let the Lord help You to serve the independent, sovereign, united Ukraine,” noted the patriarch.

The patriarch assured that on its part, the Kyivan Patriarchate is ready to support the initiatives of the president aimed to reach social agreement and to strengthen the unity of the Ukrainian nation, its spiritual revival, and increase its well-being.

“On the day of the beginning of Your service as the head of the Ukrainian state, I wish You good health, strength, and wisdo in the management of the country. I call God’s Blessing upon You!” reads the address.
