Liturgy Celebrated In Greek During Greek Cultural Days In Lviv

06.12.2002, 16:18

On 1 December 2002, Archbishop Auhustyn of Lviv and Halych of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) celebrated a Divine Liturgy in the Greek language in St. George’s Church in Lviv. This was done in connection with the Greek culture days held in Lviv in late November and early December.

Members of the Greek community in Lviv, headed by Stanislav Harabuha, were present at the liturgy. Traditionally, services in St. George’s Church in Lviv are held in Greek on 12 February, when Sts. Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom are commemorated. Because of the beautiful melodies of the Greek Orthodox liturgy and wonderful choral singing, there have recently been numerous requests from believers, among whom are also ethnic Greeks, to hold liturgies in Greek more frequently.
