Earlier, the Synod of Crete had unanimously decided to dismiss the Archbishop of Crete Eirinaios from his duties, after taking into account the affidavits of three doctors-University Professors, for the chronic health problems of Archbishop Eirinaios.

According to the announcement of the Ecumenical Patriarchate the newly-elected Archbishop is expected in the Phanar to read the Announcement of his election (Mikro Minima) and the Formal Election Announcement (Mega Minima).

The new Archbishop of Crete, Eugenios, before leaving for the Phanar met the former Archbishop of Crete, Eirinaios.
