A monument by Lviv sculptor Stepan Fedoryn will be installed in Andriy Sheptytskiy Square in the center of Ivano-Frankivsk. This project won the competition, which lasted for two years, says RISU correspondent Natalia Paliy.

According to Ivano-Frankivsk chief architect Volodymyr Haidar, Andriy Sheptytskiy Square has been specially reconstructed for that purpose.

The most suitable place for the monument to Metropolitan is the one where the sculpture of blacksmith “Easter Sun” is installed, which will be moved to Valova Street, also downtown.

“The most interesting and suitable place for the metropolitan’s monument is the square in his name,” says Volodymyr Haidar. “There is good lighting and perspective for this purpose.”

Funds for its establishment have been incorporated in the city budget in the amount of UAH 611 000, UAH 88 thousand will be allocated from the deputies’ fund. It is expected that 700 000 will be spent on the sculpture itself, and 300 thousand – on improvement of the territory, where a monument will rise. It is suggested that the lacing funds will be collected as charity donations.Note that July 2015 marks 150 years since the birth of Metropolitan Andriy Sheptytskiy. So this year the UGCC commemorates the great Metropolitan.
