The Ukrainian Interregional Association of Public Organizations “Arraid” opened a Muslim cultural summer camp for orphaned children on 15 June 2002 in the mosque of Symeiz in southern Ukrainian Crimea.

During the first session, 60 girls, aged from 9 to 14, from different cities of Crimea and the Kherson region arrived to take part in the camp. Various excursions as well as sporting and cultural entertainment events are on the agenda of the camp.

According to Dr. Ismail Kadi, head of the Simferopol branch of “Arraid,” children come to the summer camp not only to rest, but also to acquire knowledge of Islam, and Muslim morals, customs and traditions.

According to Rasim Bilialov, imam of the mosque of Symeiz, there are all the necessary conditions for the camp on the territory of the mosque. During Soviet times, there was a rest camp on the site, and so small buildings and a cafeteria have been preserved.
