Muslims enter Ramadan with a new cultural center

The new Islamic cultural center, which was inaugurated on June 3 in Sumy, has premises both for a mosque, and for the development of Islamic culture. This is the tenth similar center in Ukraine, and the first one in Sumy. On Sunday night before Ramadan for the first time the night prayer Tarawa was held here.

The inauguration of the Islamic center was attended by representatives of the local authorities, NGOs and journalists. In his welcoming speech to the participants, Imam of Sumy mosque Rustam Khusnutdinov read verses of the Holy Quran and thanked all who contributed to the construction of the cultural center, who is an active follower of Islam, and assured that every Sumy resident, regardless of religion, can find in the center of many interesting and useful things.


In his welcoming remarks Mufti of the Religious Administration of Muslims of Ukraine “Ummah” Sheikh Said Ismagilov said that opening the mosque on the eve of Ramadan had become a tradition for Muslims in Ukraine. He gave the mosque a picture of Quran Surah Al Ihlas "The Unity" made of colored sand as a present.


Said Ismagilov and Head of the Religions and Nationalities section under the Information and Communication Department of Sumy Regional State Administration Oleksiy Usenko solemnly cut the ribbon.


The latter conveyed greetings from Chairman of Sumy Regional State Administration Mykola Klochko and wished to Islamic cultural center to be always full of people  and that Sumy residents studied Arabic, Islamic culture, without forgetting the traditions and culture of Ukraine and Sumy region.


A tour of facilities of the Islamic Cultural Center was made for the guests, during which they visited the exhibition of photographer Anna Korbut entitled "Faces of Islam" and tasted traditional oriental delicacies.


Threafter, the faithful gathered for the Friday sermon and Juma prayer at the center’s mosque.

Islamic Cultural Center in Sumy is located at Sumy and Kyivan Divisions street, 24/2.
