New public holiday introduced in Ukraine

President Zelensky introduced the Day of Interethnic Harmony and Cultural Diversity, which will be celebrated on May 21.

Decree No. 883/2024 of December 27 was published on the website of the head of state, Ukrinform reports.

The document states that the Day of Interethnic Harmony, which will be celebrated annually on May 21, is introduced to strengthen the unity and harmony of the Ukrainian people and to strengthen the Ukrainian national and civic identity. It is also intended to promote the free development of cultural diversity of Indigenous peoples and national minorities (communities) and to show respect for their contribution to the defense of Ukraine's state sovereignty and independence and to the armed struggle against the aggressor state.

The Decree comes into force on the day of its publication.
