Due to Russian aggression in Ukraine, 1,528 cultural heritage sites and 2,359 cultural infrastructure facilities have been damaged.
This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications.
As of July 21, a total of 1,528 cultural heritage sites and 2,359 cultural infrastructure facilities have been destroyed or damaged as a result of Russian aggression in Ukraine. Among the damaged cultural heritage sites, 147 are of national significance, 1,267 hold local significance, and 114 have been newly discovered.
Damage has been recorded in 18 regions. The most severely affected areas include the Kharkiv region with 336 damaged monuments, the Kherson region with 289, the Odesa region with 179, the Donetsk region with 173, and the Kyiv region, along with the city of Kyiv, which has 111 damaged sites.
In total, 2,359 cultural infrastructure objects have been harmed due to shelling and hostilities, of which 471 have been completely destroyed. The most significant losses to cultural infrastructure have occurred in the Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, and Sumy regions.
Destruction has been noted in 318 territorial communities throughout Ukraine. The communities most impacted include those in Donetsk (432 TCs), Luhansk (122 TCs), Sumy (37 TCs), Kharkiv (33 TCs), Kherson (22 TCs), and Zaporizhzhia (28 TCs) regions.
Almost the entire territory of Luhansk, along with significant portions of Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Kherson regions, is under temporary occupation. This situation complicates efforts to accurately assess the number of cultural institutions affected by the hostilities and occupation.
