Over 50 Scholars Discuss Interreligious Relations in Crimea

A conference on ethno-cultural and interreligious relations in Crimea was held in Simferopol on November 20. The conference was organized by the Crimean department of Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academic of Sciences of Ukraine jointly with the All-Ukrainian Association of Social Organizations Alraid.

The conference was organized by the Crimean department of Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academic of Sciences of Ukraine jointly with the All-Ukrainian Association of Social Organizations Alraid, press service of Spiritual Board of Muslims of Crimea reports.

“The main objective of the conference is to discuss problems and finding ways to solve them, as well the practical use of the scholarly work of the participants. The main purpose to find mutual understanding,” said one of the organizers of the conference and senior fellow of the Institute of Oriental Studies Viktor Tur.

According to him, in the Crimea there are no obvious interdenominational problems, but “some unresolved issues, including the provision to religious communities of religious buildings, implementation in the educational process programs of cultural neighborliness, preventing possible conflicts.”

The academic conference was attended by over 50 people, among them historians, lawyers, sociologists, political scientists, professors, assistant professors, lecturers, researchers, students from Crimean universities and from Luhansk and Donetsk. The conference was also attended by the Deputy Mufti of Muslims of Crimea Haji Asadullah Bairov, Crimean head of the NGO Emel Muslim Dervishiv, representatives of the Karaite community, and others
