Patriarch Bartholomew becomes a honorary citizen of Ivano-Frankivsk

The session of the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council today upheld the appeal "To award the title "honorary citizen of the city of Ivano-Frankivsk". The honorary title was awarded to His Holiness Bartholomew, Archbishop of Constantinople — New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch.

Mayor Ruslan Martsinkiv explained that in one and a half weeks the city will send a delegation to Patriarch Bartholomew, newspaper "Halychyna" reports.

"This man opposed Moscow and today there is a local Orthodox Church of Ukraine. Although I am a Greek Catholic, I understand that this decision is extremely important for Ukraine," Martsinkiv said.

In addition, the honorary title was awarded to the chairman of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Organization of the Congress of Ukrainian nationalists, former mayor Bohdan Borovich (1994-1998).

Persons who receive this title are awarded a badge and a certificate "honorary citizen of the city of Ivano-Frankivsk" and ribbons.

According to the relevant regulation on awarding the title “honorary citizen of the city of Ivano-Frankivsk”, “ the title is a recognition of the exceptional merits of a person to the city community in socio-economic, scientific and educational development, for active participation in the revival and multiplication of the achievements of national culture, in the national liberation struggle for the independence of Ukraine, peacekeeping, charitable activities, scientific and sports achievements, ensuring the defense capability of the state, strengthening its security and sovereignty, courage and bravery in saving people, material values, eliminating the consequences of a natural disaster”.
