Patriarch Bartholomew becomes Honorary Doctor of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy

“By decision of the Academic Council of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy of December 20, 2018, His Holy Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew was conferred on the title of Honorary Doctor of NaUKMA. Thereby, the Mohyla Academy community “marked his merits as a scholar and popularizer of research,” he wrote.

“Patriarch Bartholomew is a reputed researcher, expert in canon law, as well as an organizer of international interdisciplinary seminars and symposia with the participation of leading world scholars. He holds the title of Honorary Doctor of more than 30 universities, including Yale and Georgetown (USA), Athens (Greece), London (UK), Jerusalem (Israel), Leuven Catholic University (Belgium). His Holiness studied at the Hulk School of Theology, Munich University of Ludwig Maximilian and Ecumenical Institute of Bosses (Switzerland); he defended his doctoral thesis in canon law themed Codification of the Church Canons and the Canonical Structure of the Orthodox Church at the Eastern Pontifical Institute in Rome; he was a lecturer at the Pontifical Gregorian University; he fluently speaks six modern and two ancient languages ​,” said Meleshevych.
