On November 22, Patriarch Filaret of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP) addressed Ukrainians on the occasion of the Day of Freedom.

On November 22, Patriarch Filaret of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP) addressed Ukrainians on the occasion of the Day of Freedom. According to him, the day should remind one that freedom is a gift of God and victory of sin over evil.

“Freedom is when a person is filled with the grace of the Holy Spirit, the spirit of love and peace. Such a person remains free even in narrow circumstances. Whereas a person who is seemingly free can be a slave of untruth and passions,” reads the address, reported the website of the UOC-KP.

“Freedom is like light. Even a small fire disperses darkness. Therefore, the Lord reminds His disciples that they should be the light for the world, the light which disperses the darkness of evil. Evil is strong in the world, but one should not lose faith or get desperate in the struggle against it and should remember that the truth is always victorious as God is with it,” reads the address Patriarch Filaret.
