Patriarch Kirill of Moscow to Visit Ukraine on 15 September

The head of the Luhansk Regional State Administration, Volodymyr Prystiuk addressed the border service of the region with a request to accelerate if possible the process of crossing the border for the parishioners of the neighbouring regions of Russia. He also issued instructions to provide vehicles to transport the parishioners from the towns and villages of the region.

“Each of us must understand the full measure of the responsibility for the preparation of the visit of a spiritual person of such level. We must do everything to ensure that this event is remembered by everyone as a light and joyful celebration,” stressed Prystiuk.

During the visit, the patriarch will communicate with the clergy and faithful in the Cathedral of St. Volodymyr in Luhansk and will visit the Eastern Ukrainian V. Dal’s National University. On the next day, the head of the Russian Church will celebrate a liturgy at the Theatre Square of Luhansk. After that, he is to visit a joint stock company Luhanskteplovoz [editor: Luhansk Diesel Locomotive] and to lay flowers at the grave of the unknown soldier.

The main event of the visit of Patriarch Kirill will be the consecration of a church dedicated to an Icon of the Mother of God of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. After a celebratory reception the hierarch will depart for Russia.
