Patriarch Sviatoslav Greets Americans on Election of Barack Obama

During a meeting between the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Patriarch Sviatoslav and top officials of the US Embassy on 10 November, the hierarch greeted the Americans on occasion of the election of Barack Obama President and wished him success in his work.

The meeting was attended by US Ambassador for special issues, Melanne Verveer, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of US to Ukraine, John Teft, representative of the US State Department, Justin Sosne, political counselor of the Embassy of U.S. in Ukraine Elizabeth Zentos and other officials.

The patriarch expressed his solidarity with the citizens of USA who were affected by the Hurricane Sandy.

The American officials inquired of the primate about freedom, particularly, religious freedom in Ukraine. The hierarch told them about the unique experience of the activity of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations. He also expressed his concern over the passed alterations to the Law on the Freedom of Worship envisaged by Bill 10221. So reported the Information Department of UGCC.
